Oh I do miss eating out! The anticipation – Choosing where to go, having a peak at the dishes online before and getting all glammed up. Then that wonderful exhale and giddy feeling of freedom, closing the door on being mum leaving the kids at home with babysitters.
The buzz of a busy restaurant – drinking cocktails way too quick while everyone’s talking at once, the indecision at all the enticing choices on the menu, “who’s having what? shall we share a bottle, sorry we haven’t decided yet, can we have a couple more minutes” Sharing an evening with people, being looked after, where all you need to do is chat and eat while the wine flows.
Well until that time that restaurants can welcome us back, I felt like I needed something to brighten up another weekend in lockdown.
So I thought we could help fill the gap (and make our Saturday night feel a bit different to every other night!) with a restaurant at home kit.
I chose the Hawksmoor kit as I’ve always loved the food when we’ve been to restaurant, plus you get cocktails and wine to make a bit of an occasion of it.
We booked our meal a couple of weeks in advance for a Saturday – You have to be quick they sell out fast! I then received an email confirmation of the delivery on the Friday night and it arrived on the Saturday morning.
What’s Included in a Hawksmoor Restaurant Meal at home Kit?
Included in the box was a bottle of pre mixed cocktail, a meal for two and bottle of wine.
- A bottle of pre mixed ‘Ultimate Dry Martini’ and a bottle of red wine (La Petite Syrah Du Mas Montel) Both really nice – Although I love making cocktails, I never make martinis, so nice to start the meal with something a bit different
- Steak – We choose sirloin and they come with a handy guide showing you how to cook them to your liking, or you can watch their head chef show you how on a video tutorial.
- Triple cook chips – Oven chips but oh so much better. These were mega! Big and crispy with a salty fluffy centre – Just the carbs I needed to soak up the martini
- Tender stem broccoli with a salty, rich anchovy butter & a rich peppercorn sauce
The meal really was amazing, simple to put together and tasted like restaurant quality.
Followed by a quick ten minute clear up at the end, clearing packaging and bunging the rest in the dishwasher. Far easier than the avalanche of mess that normally greets me in the kitchen after dinner.
Now clearly this isn’t the same as going out for dinner, but having a restaurant quality meal delivered to your door that we had to do very little to, was a lovely little weekend treat while we are at home waiting for the real thing.
You can order the Kits direct from the Hawksmoor Website
Such a big part of eating out is simply being looked after – All the prep and mess taken away and also actually just making a plan to enjoy a meal together. This really gave us the opportunity to do that.
If you’re looking for something different to look forward to at the weekend I’d really recommend it.
