Easy Winter Wardrobe Updates – What’s New in the Shops and What They Really Look Like on

Since the children went back, I’ve been meaning to buy a few winter bits for myself. Yet Septembers passed and with a cold October well and truly here, until last week, I was still making do with last year’s holey boots and feeling a bit meh wearing last years outfits.

So, as I’ve finally got round to a bit of retail therapy to freshen up my wardrobe for Autumn/Winter 2022 and found so many gorgeous outfits and accessories while shopping, I thought I’d share what’s out there.

From cropped cardigans and cheap Chelsea boots, to winter dresses, jumpers and leather jeggings – I’ve got try-ons, pics and direct links through to the best bits I’ve seen on the high street – so you can freshen up your wardrobe for winter 2022 from the comfort of your sofa with just a couple of clicks…

Winter Boots 2022

Frist thing I always buy in Autumn is Boots. I got these in New Look last week and I’ve worn them every day since – they go with everything and are really comfy. Plus, I’m loving the patent and they were only £34.99, so I’m not going to feel too precious if they get wrecked on muddy school runs or watching winter football. They come in both black and dark red – click on the image above if you’d like to see/buy them on the New Look website.

When I was out shopping, I saw they’ve also got lots of lovely boots in Colchester’s River Island.

Onto the clothes… if you are like me and fed up of all the oversized or weirdly cropped clothes around at the moment, being a bit older, a bit bigger, or struggling to dress your new shape post kids even, then this bits for you!

Alongside the shop pictures, I’ve also tried to share as many pictures with me wearing the clothes too – as I know how much it helps me when I see real people wearing an outfit, more than the models on the websites – so please excuse my rushed snaps, but for reference I’m a size 12 (waist) 14 (hip) and 5 foot 2.5 (The half matters when you’re as short as me!)

Hand M Autumn clothes 2022

This whole outfit came from H&M (Apart from the New Look boots above) The shop was awash with autumn colours when I went in, full of rich oranges and brown. I’m wearing a medium in the cardigan, it is a fit, loose, but not ridiculously so, like some are at the moment. (It also comes in cream) The white top is a great staple and one I’d also def recommend if you’re bigger busted. I bought the vest version they had in the summer too, as it has a double layer over the chest, that along with the sweetheart neckline, gives a really nice shape. Although I loved the orange skirt, it didn’t love me and showed up every lump and bump. On someone with less hips and bum to fit in, I think it would look great and such at a bargain at only £9.99. Click on the icons below to shop the outfit over on H&M.

They also had soft checked shirts, and boat neck jumpers that felt really cosy. I’ve actually made a reel over on my Instagram of an H&M try on with lots more outfits, if you want to see how they all look IRL.

Winter Dresses on the Highstreet 2022

Lets talk about two of my favourite things’ dresses and leopard print – This H&M maxi one I’m wearing can be worn as it is, if you like it floaty, or if you prefer to pretend we are still in the 90’s like me, I’ve been wearing it with a big belt pulling it in around the waist.

Although I’ve called it a maxi its listed as a midi on the website. You can see how long it is on the image and even though I’m petite it’s still going to be longer than most midis. The other thing to keep in mind is the sizing. it comes up huge. I’ve got the small and there’s still lots of room all over. Thats not to put you off though, I love it and can see this being a fav that I’m going to pull on when I want something loose to waft around in – I think it will be the perfect dress for those times of the month you feel bloated and want to hide a way a bit, especially as its only £17.99.

There seem to be so many jumper and shirt dresses around in muted tones at the moment too. Perfect for chucking on for the school run when you still want to feel a bit put together – I’ve picked out below some highlights from River Island, H&M and Oliver Bonas I’ve seen

This green one from River Island though deserved its own spot, I just love the colour and could see this looking so stylish with gold jewellery, or equally looking nice layered up when the temperatures drop further into the winter too.

Hush is a brand I love – I always find the clothes I’ve bought from there have such a great fit and can give that looser look that’s so popular, yet it doesn’t swamp you in the same way other brands can. There’s often little details, that pull the dresses etc in, so you can still see your shape. I also love how Hush styles seem to feel current for longer, I’ve got dresses I’ve had years, that still look fresh. My only other tip with Hush is that the sizing can come up big, so if you are in-between, go down a size rather than up. Here are my favs from their dresses they have online at the moment.

Jumpers and Faux Leather

I find trousers tricky to buy, but I wanted to mention these faux leather trousers from River Island along with these colourful jumpers. The trousers are a good fit without showing up all my lumps and bumps too much and are a good price in comparison to lots of other wet look clothes. The jumpers although quite classic, I thought were worth mentioning as the colours were so vibrant and the fit was again good and not baggy or cropped like so many around at the moment. I couldn’t resist the peachy pink one and have already worn it under a dungaree dress and with jeans.
