Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum Review – How It’s Improved My Skin

I’d heard and read a lot about hyaluronic acid serums, but it wasn’t until I’d tried one I realised what all the hype is about – here’s what the Votary Brightening Hyaluronic Serum has done for my skin, in just a couple of months…
I would definitely never claim to be a skincare expect, in fact I’m new to even putting anything on my face other than moisturiser. But as I’ve got older and noticed (and been bothered) by the changes to my skin, alongside noticing what a difference good skincare can make, I’m now just as interested in these products as I am with cosmetics.
I used to be all about piling on layers and layers of makeup, to hide whatever I didn’t like underneath, whereas now I get that what’s gone on before, actually makes much more of a difference to the end result.

So that’s my quick disclaimer, although I clearly have no credibility in this area, as I have also recently started using a product that has had more impact to my skin than any other product before, I wanted to share what Hyaluronic Serum has done for me…
Having a beauty advent calendar at Christmas has given me the opportunity to try out lots of new products recently – As most are pretty expensive, it’s been great to try out the miniature before committing to buy.
One of the products I got in my calendar this year, was the Brightening Hyaluronic Serum by Votary. I’ve been using it for nearly two months now and I feel like it’s made such a difference to my complexion. Firstly its hydrated my skin, giving it that much needed boost after getting so dried out over winter and because of that, for want of a better word, I feel like my face has been plumped up since using it regularly. My complexions also brighter and it feels as if my makeup goes on better.

What is Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Why Should You use It?
It’s essentially intense hydration with the hyaluronic acid almost acting as a sponge drawing moisture into the skin. I didn’t realise until now, the impact having properly moisturised skin could make. Basically dehydrated skin means complexion is duller, fine lines and wrinkles more pronounced, larger pores and more breakouts – pretty much all the things I’m trying to minimise!
Votary’s co-founder Arabella Preston shares on their website what the serum is designed to do
“The Brightening Hyaluronic Serum was formulated to really make an impact for your skin. A brilliant brightening serum which unifies and illuminates your complexion. It has become a firm favourite, and staple in my daily skincare ritual. It also smells divine”
Arabella Preston, Votary Co-Founder
How I Use Hyaluronic Acid
I have been using it twice a day for the past two months. Not religiously, (I confess, there’s always a few days I skip my whole skincare routine and just flop into bed) but most days its the first and last thing I do. Once I’ve cleansed, I put a few drops on my hand and then smooth it on to my face. It’s not one of those products that feels pampering to put on as such and although there is supposed to be one, I haven’t really noticed much of a scent either. But for me, the effect far out ways any soothing qualities of applying it.
Should You Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum Before or After Moisturiser?
I’ve read that you should apply hyaluronic acid serum before moisturiser and I’ve found its also easier that way round too. As it sinks in after just a couple of seconds, so you don’t have to wait before applying moisturiser.
It’s not cheap, costing £70 a bottle, so I’m pleased I got to sample it as part of my advent calendar. Now I have used it though, I definitely think its worth the investment. Especially as I’m only using a few drops at a time, so its going to last a long time.
