I don’t know about you, but I feel like its been so long, I hardly know what even suits me anymore. Plus it feels like SO MUCH on the high-street is geared to tall (and young) skinny Minnie’s who like everything oversized and baggy at the moment
Despite that, doesn’t it feel good to be able to put outfits together to be finally leaving the house again! I’ve loved buying some new bits for summer recently, so thought I’d share what I’ve found.
So, if you’d like to see what the current styles look like on a rounded short mum pushing 40, here’s what I’ve liked and kept!
Not overly sure I’m selling this blog with that last comment, BUT for me seeing normal sizes and shapes in the clothes I see online really helps me work out whether they are going to be right for me, so here go’s…
First up, I found a couple of really lovely outfits in H&M that also come in a mini me style so I can twin with Rose. Now I know matchy matchy can be a bit bit cringe! but I’ve never been cool and I just love it. We may not even wear the full outfits together at the same time, it will more likely be mix and match, but I so love how excited it makes her too. Feel like I’ve got to make the most of this time, because I’m sure it won’t be too long till she’s a preteen rolling her eyes at what ever I suggest.
On to the clothes, I got both outfits from H&M. They have so many nice things this season, I almost felt a bit overwhelmed with all the options online. The black shirt dress is so comfy and linen blend so nice and light weight for summer. For me I also love it because it has a drawstring to nip in the waist and is the right length for me at 5.2. It was £24.99 and as well as coming in a mini version, it comes in lots of different colours that I’m very tempted by. The dress comes up quite big in the children’s version, so you might want to size down. You can follow the link here to the item on H&M Black Linen Blend Skirt with Mini Me Option
The next piece is a skirt again from H&M. Its a midi skirt with buttons down the front, although because of my height its basically a maxi. I find it really flattering as it hides my mum tum underneath the waist band and although quite swishy with a statement print, I can dress it down for everyday with t-shirt and trainers. I bought it originally in peach and the print is gorgeous. I’ve now also bought it the blue with a small floral print that I have also bought it in the mini me version for Rose. She loves it – She had a pleated midi dress last summer that she loved, but it was quite dressy with a lining and so a bit hot in summer. This one is a simple cotton skirt with an elasticated waist that she’ll be far comfier in. I also got this pretty broderie anglaise white top from H&M Too.
The best way to see both of these outfits is on my Instagram, Rose and I had fun making some Reels so you can see what the outfits look like – A Suffolk Mum Instagram
I also failed to get Rose to stay still very long to get any photos, so instead have had to make do with some stills from the videos, so please excuse the blurry bits and my ridiculous facial expressions!
Having said I can’t do baggy, one thing I have got into recently is T-Shirts. I’ve never felt like I’ve suited many casual things, but lately I’ve realised I can look ok in tshirts as long as I’ve got something fitted on my bottom half. My favourite one at the moment is This Liberte one from Hush. I’ve worn it with so many different things already and I’ve only had it a couple of weeks. Newlook has got loads of lovely summer dresses in their sale at the moment. I got this stripy wrapover one for only £15 last week.
Another skirt I think I’m going to live in this summer is this pleated pink one from H&M. Again its got an elasticated waist, so super comfy, smoothing over all my lumps and bumps, but when we finally get to go out out again, I’m looking forward to dressing this one up with heels too. Such a bargain – only £14.99. When you look on the website its being worn with a loose woolly jumper, which I’d love to be able to pull off, but on me would just look ridiculous. But with a top tucked in, I love it. You can follow the link here to the item on H&M – Pink pleated Midi Skirt
What have you bought so far this summer? I’d love to know your best buys…
