Our Lake Como Couple Mini Break – Hilton Hotel Review

Earlier this year we were invited to a wedding on the Italian Lakes. Wanting to take full advantage of a few days’ child free, we extended our stay and booked a long weekend at the Hilton Hotel Lake Como. If you are looking for a short haul European luxury weekend away as a couple – I can honestly say it’s one of the most beautiful places, I have ever visited.
We’d started our Italian trip on Lake Maggiore and then taken a car transfer over to Como. Once we got close, the glimpses of the beautiful lakes beyond disappeared and the scenery pulled in close, as we drove though narrow busy streets lined with shops and cafes. We soon arrived at our hotel – it was nice enough looking from the outside, but very much a simple block building in comparison to the rows of old heritage Italian buildings that line the front. The reception had more of a modern European city hotel feel, which was a nice welcome after the long car ride.
We arrived at lunch time, so too early for check in, but we were offered to have our bags stored and use of the pool straight away. The staff on reception couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, although it was busy with lots of other guests checking out as we arrived. The first thing we did was head straight up to the roof top restaurant for lunch. You are greeted out of the lift by more reception staff and led to a table to eat.

The view is unbelievable, like nothing I’ve ever seen – it felt like stepping out of the lift on to a film set.
The restaurant has both inside and outside seating all with incredible views. Any pictures I took, just don’t do it justice. With the pastel perfect buildings peeking out among the mountain range, with the vast blue twinkling lake below, it was amazing to see.
The food was high quality as you’d expect from such a resort, although the menu choices were pretty short for lunch. I had a pasta dish from the small plates section that was not only delicious, but also a nice size, so I wasn’t too full to swim.

We spent our first afternoon at the pool and were pleasantly surprised then and each time we visited at how much room there was, with plenty of loungers always free. To be honest, although we hadn’t been to the area before, we spent the majority of our weekend either in or around the roof top pool and the Terrazza 241 bar.
Soaking up the sunshine in the infinity pool, cocktail in hand – as I looked out across that film set stunning view, I felt like I’d landed in my own glamourous Italian heaven. I never wanted to leave.
The seating areas were comfortable, there are complimentary towels and table service for drinks and food, you had everything you could want, to spend all day relaxing pool side.

Our bedroom was nice, nothing overly fancy, but we had plenty of space and a great view of the lake beyond. The bathroom felt a step up on the bedroom however, with more of a luxury feel, containing both a bath section and separate shower wet room with huge power shower and complimentary Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries.
On our second day, I did take a little morning walk down to the lake. It was only a five-minute stroll from the hotel and if you turn right once you reach the water there was a lovely little riverside cafe perfect for looking out on the river and taking it all in, as people walk by. Not sure what the actual name was, but I also had an iced coffee treat that I absolutely loved. it was like a cross between a Nespresso ice-cream and Frappuccino, it was small but sooo good.

During our stay, we also paid a visit to the onsite spa. I was surprised it wasn’t included in the hotel stay, but I would say it was worth a visit. You need to go and book a time before hand and we were lucky that when we went, apart from ten minutes at the end, when one other person came in, we had it to ourselves. There’s an indoor pool, massaging jets, sauna and steam room. The showers are also worth a mention. They were pretty special – you stand under it and then this incredible scented mist envelops you all over.
The rooftop pool side at night, takes on a romantic glamourous feel. I loved getting dressed up to eat dinner by candlelight and music, as the sun set all around.

We also had dinner one evening downstairs in the courtyard. This had a nice informal feel and was one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had.

All in all, our stay at the Lake Como Hilton felt like a little slice of Italian heaven and the perfect spot to have a child free romantic weekend as a couple. To find out more about the hotel and book, head over to the Hilton Hotel Lake Como booking page
