February Half Term Days out with the Kids – Bury, Sudbury & Colchester

February half term in Suffolk is nearly here (Didn’t that go quick!) I’ve been busy filling up our calendar with days out and local family activities, so thought I’d share the best events I’ve found to help you plan your holidays 2020.

There’s so much going on in Suffolk and Essex this February half-term. From Harry Potter events in Sudbury to Paw Patrol characters popping up in Colchester, forget about the freezing weather and make the most of this holiday with the kids.

Half Term Things to do in Sudbury, Suffolk

Family Film at the Quay Theatre Sudbury

The Quay Theatre are showing the family blockbuster Abominable this half term on Thursday 20th February. You can find out how to book tickets here.

Holiday Clubs Sudbury – Maxim Football and Dance

My children love maxim! They have been going a couple of years now and always come running out beaming, after a fun-filled day of activities. It’s also handy that they run pretty much the same timing as a school day. My two are looking forward to the football and dance camps that are running this holiday at Cornard Sports Centre, on the 19th & 20th Feb You can find out all the details on their website here.

Sudbury Library Harry Potter Event

Hogwarts fans of all ages will love the themed activities going on in Sudbury Library this holiday. There’s drop in activities such as the trail, you can do any time, and even a craft workshop where you can try your hand at making wands and even Troll Bogeys! This is a ticketed event though, so make sure you pop in for your tickets in advance.

Half Term Things to do in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Arc Shopping Centre, Bury St Edmunds, Family Event

They haven’t released a lot of details yet, but if you have shopping planned with the kids in tow in Bury during the holidays, the Arc shopping centre have announced they are running a spaced themed event for families. here’s what they’ve said so far: “Zoom off to another galaxy with arc shopping centre this February half-term as the shopping centre brings an out of this world experience to Bury St Edmunds.” It’s on Monday 17th Feb 11-3pm, keep an eye on their facebook page for more information.

The Little Prince at the Theatre Royal

A charming and gorgeously designed stage adaptation of The Little Prince comes to Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds on February 18th. Telling the story of a boy who comes face to face with the baffling world of grown-ups through dance, music and a beautiful, otherworldly set, sounds like a magical treat for all the family this half term.

Nowton Park Half Term Trail

One of our favourite parks to visit, perfect for a family walk to blow away the cobwebs and the trails always help when tired legs are flagging. During February half term, follow the trail around Nowton Park and collect the answers to the wildlife clues. Pick up your quiz sheet and then your prize from the Grounds café.

Running Saturday 15 February – Sunday 23 February 2020, during café opening hours. Tickets: £1 per quiz sheet

Milkshake Live at the Apex

Is Milkshake the soundtrack to your mornings? This show looks the perfect half term preschool treat! You can find all the booking details on the Apex Website here

Half Term Things to do In Colchester, Essex

Colchester Zoo Holiday Events

On the 22nd & 23rd February Colchester Zoo are having a ‘Character Weekend with appearances from Peppa & George Pig on the Saturday and PAW Patrol characters on the 23rd. There’s lots more details on their website here.

Half Term Event at Colchester Castle

Colchester Castle will be gazing upwards and experiencing the wonders of the night sky, when it welcomes a pop-up planetarium to help children learn more about the planets and solar system. With expert commentary to guide them, make sure you bring the children along to learn more about the universe in this rather unique setting Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 Feb.
